Crew haircut, thick glasses and thick figure - that’s Drew Carey, an assistant director of personnel in a Cleveland department store. Frustrated with his job he can always count on his friends.
Great first season unfortunately followed by mediocre second season and year after year the show kept being more and more disappointing up to a sad ending in 2004.
At the beginning the life of a Midwest blue collar was fun to watch thanks to his strange friends Oswald and Lewis, his constant fights with Mimi Bobeck, his kind-of-relation with Lisa and problems with neighbours, hillarious episodes in court...
But since the beginning of the second season creators have started experiments with the series - the plot was getting too much of "office humour" which ended up with losing the originality, Drew’s hostility towards Mimi was more and more irrational, then in third season and what was after they’ve started with musical numbers, improvised episodes, incoherent plots and the whole show was going down.
And then there was point known as "jump the shark" - when Drew was in coma since then the show was really really bad. The said thing is that it runned for 3 more years.
Overall it was great idea, some really great episodes unfortunately mixed between some really, really poor ones. Up to a point Drew Carey was a star, then it seems that he started to feel like a star and stopped developing the show in favor for his other project - Who’s Line is it anyway?
