Online game Mythic Quest gained a lot of praise, but people, who are behind the game are completely different than what you might think.

Ian Grimm created online game Mythic Quest, which is one of the most popular titles on the market, but with years he became slightly detached from his product. He is still the creative director behind it, but since the studio is now owned by big corporation from Montreal, he has to deal with different challenges. One of them is Poppy Li, the lead engineer, who tries to make a mark on the product, Brad tries to milk the players to increase profits, formerly popular writer, C.W., struggles to still be relevant as part of the team. All of them are lead by executive producer, David, who is missing... pretty much all of the qualities a leader should have.

Sitcom created by team that was behind It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, but in completely different style and completely different setting. Instead of wild adventures of unpredictable characters we have office humour, corporation games inside the company and power plays between employees. While there are better moments, better episodes, bits that are similar to It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia style, overall it is rather typical workplace sitcom.

But since it was initiated by big corporation (Ubisoft), produced (among others) by big corporation (Lionsgate) and distributed by even bigger corporation (Apple) it is hardly surprising that the final product is a very safe, middle-of-the-road production, which ticks all of the checkboxes when it comes to political correctness and diversity. Mythic Quest is not a bad sitcom, it’s just using gaming industry as a background does not make it unique or unforgettable. From time to time the series reaches the verge of comedy-drama or add some deeper thoughts into stories, but they don’t add much value to the series. The characters are rather typical for workplace sitcom, the stories are typical, the humour is typical.
