During World War 2 French cafe owner Rene Artois reluctantly gets involved into Resistance affairs, which brings him nothing but the trouble. Not to mention his wife could any day find out about his affairs with the waitresses...

One of the most successful British comedy series of 1980s based on the concept taken from 1978 drama series Secret Army. The legendary writers Jeremy Lloyd and David Croft created a parody of the story taking place during World War 2 in occupied France. Cafe owner Rene Artois was reluctant to get involved in Resistance activities, especially since Germans were his most valuable customers and his Cafe Rene was always full of soldiers. He had his life, his grumpy wife and mother-in-law, his waitresses that he had affairs with. But one day two British pilots were shot down near the town of Nouvion and the leader of local Resistance asks him, or rather forces him, to hide them in cafe. From that point his rather peaceful life changes completely - he gets involved in bombs, secret drops from British, exploding Christmas puddings, British agents, Gestapo and many more...

One of the classics with great cast, well developed characters and lots of fun. The writers used all the stereotypes French, Germans, British and other nations, managed to simulate the different accents they are using, and created such memorable characters as Officer Crabtree or Leutenant Gruber. Unfortunately the later seasons were a little bit below the par, especially when David Croft left the series (after 6th series), but still it is a must-see comedy series.
