1980s movie comedy series

Parodies of popular catastrophic movies of the 1970s - washed-out former airforce pilot tries to save his relationship with stewardess Elaine and climbs aboard the passenger plane. Later it will turn out that his pilot skills will be invaluable.

Parody is, contrary to what people believe and what Scarry Movie creators must think, tough to make. There were hundreds of parodies in history, but only a handful is still considered good and still remembered. Airplane! Series is based on popular in 1970s kind of movies known as catastrophy drama - there were errupting volcanos, skyscrapers on fire, earthquakes and all the possible natural and unnatural causes to show people a thriller. But as any kind of movies the catastrophy dramas soon became almost parodies to whas they were suppose to be.

Abrahams, Zucker and Zucker (sounds like a law firm) decided to make a parody of the airplane based catastrophy dramas, like Zero Hour! or Airport and its sequels, where something happens to an airplane while in the air and all the people aboard and on the ground must get together to rescue the passengers.

In Airplane! we have almost exact copy of one of those movies, but the scenes were twisted to give it a comic value. And it worked perfectly - the silly gags said and acted with typical to catastrophy dramas serious expression on the faces is hilarious.

Second movie was made without Zucker, Zucker and Abrahams, but still kept the style and atmosphere of the first one.
