Comedy duo Mitchell and Webb in their first solo project - sketch show telling short stories of peoples lives from inept writers to happy tramps.
Comedy duo Mitchell and Webb worked as writers for such projects as Big Train or Bruiser, but 2001 The Mitchell and Webb Situation was their first solo project, in which they were the only authors and they played most of the characters. Unfortunately, just like in case of Big Train, much of the material in The Mitchell and Webb Situation seemed rushed and under developed - the characters were very simple, the situations not that involving, the jokes often based on the awkwardness of the situations rather than gags. While similar style of humour worked fine in their hit Peep Show it was hardly surprising that in very short sketches it was hard to prepare proper build up for a joke.
Even though it was made in 15 days for small channel Play UK (suggesting low budget) the final effect was very disappointing - very few of the sketches actually worked, most of them seemed unfinished or under developed, so the whole production was very forgettable effort from Mitchell and Webb.
