The everyday ups and downs of the staff in Valco supermarket in Watford - the mild-natured manager, his nervous assistant, lazy staff and unpleasant customers.

Trollied is one of the modern comedy series that is somewhere between the classic sitcom and mockumentary - often the plot has only slight influence on the events, what we see is a lot of tiny bits from the lives of the staff and they everyday frustrations, rather than a chain of linked events. And in case of Trollied it worked perfectly - the scenes are light and entertaining, the characters interesting, the whole outlook of the show lets you just relax and enjoy the often pointless or silly dialogues.

Even without the typical plots or multi-dimensional characters there is sort of good feeling about the series and most of the time it is pleasure to watch. At least it was until the third series, where creators decided to try something new and it all went downhill.

First of all departure of few key characters hit the atmosphere quite badly and the introduction of new characters didn’t actually work. Lack of chemistry between Kieran, Andy, Katie and Margaret was replaced by rather annoying new characters like Richard or Anna and the tension that they produced, not to mention the characters of fishmongers that were completely pointless and did not add any value to the show.

The second problem is that since series 3 the relaxed atmosphere was replaced by rather forced attempts to create funny moments and most of them failed completely. The personal stories seemed just out of place, the different kind of humour from fishmongers seemed just improvised and rather lame.

Overall interesting series that managed to make a visit to supermarket an entertaining experience, but after a while the creators run out of good ideas and instead of closing the series they decided to use not very good ideas or just improvise. Still above average modern comedy series.
