Young Dr. Flynn joins the NHS South Middlesex hospital, where he lerns how far the reality is from his expectations.
Inexperienced young doctor begins his career in NHS hospital, where he learns the rules of survival - from constant fatigue, tons of paperwork, the beeper ringing in all the wrong moments, nurses showing him that he is only a doctor, to the most dirty and disgusting jobs there are in hospital. Of course he can always count on his mentor Dr. Noble, who knows everything there is to know, but sometimes keeps important bits of informations for himself. Always tired and late for another call Flynn can’t help getting in trouble again and again.
The premise of this series is far from being original - inexperienced doctor as main character was used many times in sitcoms (Scrubs, Doctor in the House, Doctor at Large, Green Wing, Off the Stretcher, some episodes of Only When I Laugh) and comedies (Whitecoats, Young Doctors in Love) and it’s hard to imagine anything new that can be told in that matter. And this it the right attitude to approach sitcom tlc - it isn’t in any way visionary, it isn’t groundbreaking, it isn’t fantastic. It was just another sitcom about doctors and the hospital life - nothing more, nothing less.
The adventures of main characters were fairly entertaining, although the supporting characters were usually providing more laughs (like Terry and the Gasman), plots were simple, jokes often failed, some of the characters (like the Reverend or guy in the chair) were completely obsolete. And after stating all of this the strangest thing I can say is... I will watch it again some day. It isn’t masterpiece, but rather relaxing and simple sitcom that doesn’t require much thinking.
