Group of co-workers meet in the smoking room, where there is only one rule - "no shop talk". So they talk about... pretty much everything not work related.
The Smoking Room, as it easy to guess, takes place entirely in the smoking room with people coming and going. Most of the time there isn’t any actual plot or the themes change during the dialogue and strangely enough... it really works. Watching a group of bored with their lives and even sad people talk about more or less trivial matters actually works. Of course there were few attempts to make such series (f.e. The Ricky Gervais Show), but they didn’t reach the level set by The Smoking Room.
Of course the pace of the show could be sometimes a little bit too slow, there weren’t much distinctive jokes, some of the episodes were better, some worse, but overall it was a very good show and easy to get attached to.
Also there is interesting trivia why the series ended after only 2 seasons: since 2007 in whole Britain any smoking indoor in workplaces was prohibited, so actually keeping smoking room in the company would be illegal.
