After divorce from her rich husband Nora Wilde returns to her old profession, a newspaper photographer. Well, sort of... She becomes papprazzo for Comet tabloid.
Nora Wilde, a Pulitzer Prize nominated photographer, learns after the divorce that without support of her rich husband she is pretty much desparate to support herself. Luckily she finds a fulfilling new job - she becomes a paparazzo for tabloid called Comet. Her new boss, Camilla Dane, is a perfect person to be in charge of such magazine - ruthless, completely disregarding truth and experienced in covering up any mishaps. In her new line of work Nora has a lot to learn from her colleagues.
Originally broadcasted by ABC The Naked Truth did not have huge potential. Look on the world through eyes of of paparazzi was interesting, but soon ran out of steam and the whole premise moved more into mashing the characters into uninteresting pulp - the cynical and egotistical co-workers suddenly became best friends, hang out together and looked out for each other. ABC decided to cancel the show after first season, even though the viewing numbers were not that bad.
NBC picked up the show for second season and made few changes - in first season Nora’s best friend was her ex-step-daughter Chloe, her landlord Mr. Donner got involved with her misadventures, now they both were gone without explanation. Nora now lives in a house, not apartment, has younger sister, which was never mentioned before, and her parents are heavily involved in her life. The Comet was bought by meat mogul, who put his son, Les Polanski, in charge of the magazine, which meant Camilla is no longer in charge. George Wendt, who played Les Polanski, brought some quality into the show, but at the same time all three Nora’s colleagues from first season, who were paparazzi, now were assigned desk jobs in the office, which made no sense.
Even though the whole chemistry of the show changed in second season actually improved viewing figures (although tying it with Friends was also one of the factors behind it), so for third season NBC decided to... of course, completely revamp the show. Camilla Dane moves to different tabloid and brings Nora and Stupid Dave with her. The whole rest of the cast was simply discarded and new characters were brought, none of which had any depth. The tone of the sitcom was changed again and, while Nora technically was again chasing after scandals, the show moved into office humour genre and lost any distinctive features in the process. The viewing features plummeted and The Naked Truth was cancelled for second, and last, time.
