After divorce of his parents Will moves from private school to public one and meets three new friends - all of them exactly as socially awkward as him.

The teenage boys have only two things on their mind - sex and more sex. More complexed of them might add a thing or two to that list, like alcohol or cars, but overall that’s it - they wake up, think of sex until they fall asleep. And that’s how the storyline of The Inbetweeners could be described - it is the look into world of teenage boys in one of the schools somewhere in England. They are not typical boys - they are socially awkward, they have tendency to put themselves in very embarassing situations, they cannot find the way to start normal relationships with girls... But at the same time they actually are typical - everyone has its flaws, they just got them all.

Will is irritable teenager, who after switching from private school to public one finds it hard to settle down among strangers. Jay is notorious liar obsessed with sex, who loves to tell the fairy tales about his orgies. Neil is dim-witted and naive boy, who does all the strange things others would never do. Simon seems to be the most normal and predictible of them... at least if Carli is not in sight - his crush for her is on a verge of obsession. Those four completely different guys put together do all the embarassing, sometimes disgusting, sometimes stupid things that... are actually a great joy to watch.

Of course the comedy style of the Inbetweeners isn’t for everyone’s taste - the swearing and stories filled with sex overtones may put off some of the viewers, but contrary to similar comedy series (like The League or Californication, Dream On to name few) it is done with some sort of naivety rather than cynical approach to sex. Yes, all the Jay’s stories are filled with all the graphical details of sex adventures he supposedly had, but at the same time he proves time and time again how he goes way over his head with the lies. Yes, they spend most of their time chasing after girls, thinking about girls, talking about girls, and it all seems to be very repetitive, but that’s just how the life of teenager looks like.

Overall it is one of the best British comedy series of recent years - it is one of the series that are not based on simple one-liners (although there are great quotes), but rather on the situations and characters. Putting together four socially inadequate people seemed like risky idea, but just like in case of Big Bang Theory it gave a great result.
