Single dad George lives with his daughter in New York. Worried that she will be influenced by wrong company he decides that they have to move to suburban neighborhood. Even though it is safer there the life is not as simple as it seems.
Suburgatory is satire on suburban America and how the life out there differs from "normal" life. And at the beginning it actually worked - the episodes were entertaining, the cynical Tessa was interesting guide through the jungle of suburban superficial lifestyle. But the idea had rather limited potential after a short while the ideas were repeating, plots were similiar, characters not that fresh and the whole project became just another show between satire and soap opera.
And there is another sad thing about it - the satire is a little bit too close to reality. If you take a look at the "reality" shows on TV you’ll notice that what we see in Suburgatory is sometimes more realistic than what actually goes on in modern schools or suburban areas. Also with such high number of people using plastic surgery in US it isn’t that funny that they look so fake (just take a look at Cheryl Hines in Curb Your Enthusiasm and here in Suburgatory and you’ll see what I mean).
Overall - interesting idea, but made about 10-15 years too late since what we can see outside the window is more satirical than what we see in Suburgatory.
