Jimmy has to raise to the role of single father after his daughter Hope is born as result of a one-night stand with woman, who was later sent to prison.

Another series from creator of My Name is Earl - Gregory Thomas Garcia. On one hand the name of creator was promising, but on the other hand My Name is Earl put the expectetions rather high. And in that case it looks like it is much too high for what Raising Hope can deliver. The whole premise was ok, but it was hard not to spot parallels between the two series - character of Virginia isn’t far from Joy, her partner Burt is similiar to Darnell, the other characters are similiar to people Earl used to meet on his journeys.

Jimmy’s and his family inability to take good care for the kid and his kind of trailer-like environment doesn’t seem to work as well as it used to in My Name is Earl - there isn’t enought chemistry between the character to keep it running for long time.
