Pardon the Expression tv sitcom review

Leonard Swindley becomes the deputy manager of the department store Dobson & Hawks. He is constantly suspended between the demands of management and the reluctance of the employees.

Pardon the Expression is a comedy series that derived from soap opera Coronation Street - the main character of Leonard Swindley used to be a manager of the fashion retail store "Gamma Garments" in Coronation Street before moving to this spin-off.

The series is kept in a style and topics typical for 1960s - the department store with clear border between the management and the workers. Pardon the Expression resembles such titles as The Rag Trade or On the Buses - rather slow pace of the plot, simple stories, often predictible jokes.

It was the first comedy series for Arthur Lowe, who later starred in such titles as Dad’s Army, Bless Me Father or Potter. Just like mentioned The Rag Trade or On the Buses it belongs to old style of British comedy with slow pace and often soap-opera-like plots. They all have lost a lot of their appeal, but still can be quite entertaining.
