Accident prone Father Dominic leaves the walls of a monastery to become a catholic priest in a small parish. Father Harris welcomes his new curate with hope in his heart, but it won’t last long.

Oh, Father! is an extension to Oh, Brother! series, Derek Nimmo continued his part of clumsy, but good-hearted Brother Dominic, this time in different surroundings - in small parish, where he became curate. His naive nature and accident proneness soon show Father Harris that his curate will make his mark in the life of the parish, mostly will mark it with bits of broken items.

It was the third (and last) time that Derek Nimmo was playing a cleric - he begun in very popular All Gas and Gaiters, later moved on to Oh, Brother! that did not matched the viewing figures of All Gas and Gaiters, which was not much surprise since the whole style and type of humor has changed. After three seasons of Oh, Brother! creators David Climie and Austin Steele tried to revive the character in different surroundings and more open reality, but this also proved to be less entertaining that was expected.

Oh, Father! wasn’t a great show, perhaps slightly better than Oh, Brother! since the character were not closed behind the monastery doors, but at the same time it did not offered anything new or original. The good-hearted Father Dominic kept putting himself in embarrassing situations, but it was not enough to keep this series alive. In All Gas and Gaiters he had great supporting cast and well written scripts, in Oh, Brother! and Oh, Father! the humor was simpler, the characters were simpler and the final product was just average.
