Lee is not very ambitious man, but he is lucky enough to share apartment with woman, who don’t mind his laziness.
Lee is not very ambitious man - he complaints about his upbringing in public estate in the North, barely manages to upkeep himself, but it seems to work for him since he shares an apartment in London Dockyards with woman, who don’t really mind covering for his part of the rent. How he does it? He is lucky enough that the apartment belongs to his best friend and the woman is his ex (in later seasons she was replaced by his sister).
Not Going Out, created by stand up comedian Lee Mack, is show basing heavily on one-liners, but with very good atmosphere and interesting characters it keeps being fresh throughout the (now extended to 2022) long run. One of the flaws of this sitcom is cast changes - while the character begin to fit into the series tone they disappear for next season. Megan Dodds left after season one, Simon Dutton after one season, Miranda Hart after two seasons, Timothy West did not returned to the character of Geoffrey Adams, Tim Vine after 5 seasons, Katy Wix after five seasons.
Also with time the overall focus of the series has changed - while early seasons were kept in Men Behaving Badly style, from season 6 it has changed and headed towards family oriented themes close to Outnumbered.
Overall one of the best British sitcoms in post-2000 era.
