Miranda is 30-something girl (yes, contrary to her appearance and common belief she is a girl) that runs a novelty shop and tries not to take life too seriously.
Miranda Hart created the series based on her radio comedy show Miranda Hart’s Joke Shop with most of the cast reprising their characters. The show, or both of them to be exact, are based on Hart’s own experiences being tall and a bit clumsy person that hardly ever fits in with the rest of the crowd. Her character is of course more caricatural, but basically Miranda Hart plays a version of herself - the well-meaning and positive girl that constantly puts herself in embarrassing situations due to her social awkwardness. Her mother, the domineering Penny, doesn’t make her life any easier by pressuring her to finally find herself a husband and real career, not the novelty shop. The best friend, Stevie, almost as weird as Miranda herself (although with the allure), is often keeping Miranda from falling apart and just give in. When handsome Gary returns to neighbourhood Miranda rediscovers her feelings for him, but also rediscovers her lack of social skills.
Childish, goofy, happy-go-lucky Miranda stands out of the crowd, but it is hard to be bored around her - she has her own ways of dealing with even most serious matters. And the series is like that - often childish, goofy, bit awkward, but very entertaining and unlike any other comedy series.
