Three elderly men from Yorkshire wonder around their town, around the countryside and look for ways to kill some time and feel young again.
The longest running comedy series in history of British television. With short breaks it was entertaining the British viewers for 37 years. Sounds like soap opera, right? Well, yes and no. Last of the Summer Wine is a slow pace comedy about three elderly Yorkshiremen that are just finding ways to keep themselves occupied during the days. They spend time in the cafe, wandering around countryside, visiting friends, etc.
It was considered classic (well, it’s hard to overlook its extremely long run) mostly enjoyed by older viewers because of the slow pace and the fact that most of the characters are rather old people. Also the plots were usually simple, most of the humour was derived from the situations and characters (with special emphasis on the Yorkshiremen stereotypes.
It’s actually hard to give a simple rating to this series - on some levels it is light and entertaining, but also often the plots were too simple and the pace was too slow. There were some good jokes (even very good jokes), but usually mixed between not very impressive scenes and not very gripping dialogues. But to put it in a nutshell - don’t knock till you try it, Last of the Summer Wine could be quite entertaining.
