The crew of spaceship HMS Camden Lock is struggling on their mission to protect British interests in a changing galaxy. They travel from one solar system to another and spread the promotional materials about investing in Doncaster or Norwich.
Hyperdrive was often compared with Red Dward (which was ratehr inevitable), but in fact those two are completely different approaches to similiar theme. Both are set in future and take place in space, but Red Dwarf is rather typical comedy series that takes place in unusual circumstances while Hyperdrive is more science fiction offer with elements of humour.
Hyperdrive is highly enjoyable series if you don’t expect many laugh-out-loud moments. The humour is more subtle than in Red Dwarf and based on characters rather than simple single-liners. Also casting of Nick Frost and Miranda Hart added more dimensions to the plots - even if they aren’t up to the tasks they have to cope with still they are incompetent in human way and not using over-the-top performances.
Overall Hyperdrive wasn’t great comedy series, but was at least decent science fiction series with entertaining atmosphere and not bad plots.
