Stand up comedian Ian Lyons gives up his London career to move with his newly-wed wife to the village she grew up in.
Stand up comedian Ian Lyons gives up his London career to move with his newly-wed wife Lisa to Snowle, the village she grew up in. Lisa’s parents don’t like him, her brother Dean despises him, only her sister Helen at least tries to get to know him. Ian has no job here, no friends, no plans for the future, his father-in-law even would pay him some good money to leave Lisa alone and return to London. With no better plans Ian buys an old-fashioned photography studio and plans to make living of it, although he has very little knowledge or skills to do so. Despite the problems with Lisa’s family and her ex-boyfriend, who has problems with letting her go, their marriage is strong even in face of rather unexpected events, like their naked photos hanging around the village...
Sitcom created by Simon Nye, most remembered for Men Behaving Badly, unfortunately How Do You Want Me? is one of his less successful works, mostly due to rather under-developed concept for the series. The clash between Londoner Ian and the village community had very little potential for comedy, Dylan Moran never was a versatile actor, the plots for episodes were rather mediocre and the whole setup lacked chemistry. The cast was good (Frank Finlay, Peter Serafinowicz, Emma Chambers, Mark Heap), there was some potential, but the series was somewhere between comedy, romance and the country life story, there were too few characters and the episodes were a bit too predictible. Overall, just like another Simon Nye show Hardware, How Do You Want Me? was just forgettable.
