One of the first situation comedy series in British tv. Each week Tony Hancock presents different story about life of his character falling into pieces, often with help of scheming Sid James.
One of the first television sitcoms built around the characte of Tony Hancock, but not like in other cases we have here practically different setting each week and there almost isn’t any connection between the episodes. Some of them are typical comedy between Hancock and James, but some of the episodes are parodies, some other place them in completely different places and roles (like actors in Carry On movies).
Not all episodes survived to our times, but from those that we have it seems that the series has lost most of it’s original value - the pace is (with some exceptions) very slow, jokes usually aren’t great, situations aren’t as funny as they probably were 50 years ago. Overall it isn’t bad series, it could be quite enjoyable, but it certainly can’t compete with such titles as Fawlty Towers, Blackadder or Vicar of Dibley.
