Gary Sparrow, the TV repairman living with his wife in London in the 1990s accidentally finds the portal that would allow him to move in time to 1940s London and back. The war was still on, German bombers was flying over the city, but Gary found the reason to keep visiting the past - barmaid Phoebe.

| Hit by the blast from an airraid whilst out with his son Michael, Gary is amazed to discover that both of them have been blown, by the blast, back into the present day and he has to concoct a story about finding an abandoned baby to appease a suspicious Yvonne, who believes him to be seeing another woman. |
2 | London Pride |
| Yvonne’s business selling holistic beauty products is a huge success and she is invited to a Woman of the Year bash at 10 Downing Street. However, when Gary arrives he is not allowed in because everyone assumes her real husband is her business partner Clive Lezouche. |
3 | When Two Worlds Collide |
| An unexploded bomb goes off in Duckett’s Passage - opening a portal into the present and to Gary’s horror Phoebe comes through it with him. |
4 | Mairzy Doats |
| Overjoyed to think that he can also time travel Ron is in his element in 1942 and partners Phoebe’s easy friend Violet to accompany the Sparrows and Reg to a dance. |
5 | Pennies from Heaven |
| Ron suggests that Gary read up in old newspapers the winners of horse races in 1942 and then go back and bet on them, which he does but the bookie cheats him out of his winnings. |
6 | We Don’t Want to Lose You... |
| Yvonne’s business is a great success and Gary tells Ron that, by comparison, he feels a nobody. |
7 | ... But We Think You Have to Go |
| Gary sees that spy catcher Tufty has used him as a decoy and that he is expendable. He is captured by some Germans but, thanks to French double agent called Celeste, he escapes and gets back to his boat and back home. |
8 | Have You Ever Seen a Dream Walking? |
| Gary is having disturbing dreams, such as one where Rolf Harris appears to upbraid him for claiming he wrote ’Two Little Boys’. To ease his sleep Ron slips him a sleeping pill but this gives him a nightmare in which Yvonne and Phoebe have found out about each other and force him to choose between them. |
9 | Love the One You’re With |
| Having discovered that Reg is still alive and in a nursing home Gary visits but Reg fails to recognize him. |
10 | My Heart Belongs to Daddy |
| Gary is visited in his shop by a shabbily-dressed middle-aged man down on his luck and out to sell some wartime items. |
