Gary Sparrow, the TV repairman living with his wife in London in the 1990s accidentally finds the portal that would allow him to move in time to 1940s London and back. The war was still on, German bombers was flying over the city, but Gary found the reason to keep visiting the past - barmaid Phoebe.

| About to be a father twice over Gary is feeling under pressure and starts smoking 1940s cigarettes in Yvonne’s presence. Back in 1942 he places an advert in the Times saying he would like to buy Swiss watches. |

| Gary is baby-sitting Yvonne’s young nephew Arthur when he disappears. He suspects that the little boy may have wandered through the time warp back to 1942 and goes after him. |
3 | Out of Town |
| Whilst Yvonne is in Korea on business Gary arranges to stay on a farm in Kent with Phoebe for a week. |
4 | And Mother Came Too |
| Donald is killed when a sniper falls out of a tree and Ron gets arrested. |
5 | The Leaving of Liverpool |
| Phoebe and Gary go to Liverpool to see her grandma, Ron having told him to look out for his grandfather Albert who became a hero for saving a child in a fire. |
6 | How Long Has This Been Going On? |
| As Gary argues with Phoebe over which school to send their unborn child, the mother of Reg’s son Frankie, comes to the pub, complaining about the rough treatment she is receiving from her husband. |
7 | Easy Living |
| Gary is stock-taking and Yvonne, who has quit her job to do an aromatherapy course, wants to help, which is annoying because Gary and Phoebe need to be at the church to plan their wedding. |
8 | Come Fly with Me |
| On the eve of his wedding Gary attends two stag nights - one arranged by Ron and another set up by visiting Canadian pilots at the Royal Oak. |
9 | Heartaches |
| Having overslept Gary is late arriving at church, but the wedding party has already left and a funeral is in progress. |
10 | Careless Talk... |
| Reg is painting the nursery for Gary, who needs some wartime fivers to pay him with. Ron agrees to print some for him if Gary can get him a date with Kate, a friend of Yvonne’s. |
11 | The Bells Are Ringing |
| Against Gary’s advice, Yvonne has decided to go into business with a man called Clive, to promote her new health drink, but he is a swindler who runs off with her investment. |
