Range of Emotions

In the eighth-season opener, Aaron is called to Iraq When Joan buys an expensive new kitchen range for their new house, her fiance Aaron (Richard T. Jones) get upset that she spent money without discussing it with him. Later, after Joan and Aaron stop arguing, he receives news that his National Guard unit is being called to Iraq. Meanwhile, Lynn is enjoying her newfound success with her music career and begins to flaunt it.

Baghdad, My Bad

Joan runs away to Mexico with Aaron in attempts to keep him from leaving to Iraq. While in Mexico, Aaron realizes that he cannot run from the war and the two of them decide that they should get married before he departures. Meanwhile, Maya automatically assumes that Jabari has been using marijuana when she finds it in her home. Also, Lynn reaches another milestone in her music career, but she doesn’t feel comfortable celebrating because of Joan and Aaron’s problem.

Where Did Lynn-Digo

Lynn must decide whether to perform at a rally to raise awareness to save the environment; requested by a student she met at UCLA, named Xander (Quddus Phillipe) or perform at the House of Blues, where her manager booked for her to perform. Meanwhile, After hearing Jabari use the "B" word, Maya gets upset with him and Joan enlists William assistance when she hears strange noises coming from her crawlspace.

Losing It

While experiencing writers block, Maya avoids her manager as her deadline approaches to complete her third book. Later, Maya learns that there may be some complications with her pregnancy and the doctor advises her to take it easy, but Maya doesn’t comply. Meanwhile, Joan has a hard time getting Lynn to rent her apartment. Also, William and Monica realize differences in their relationship.

Good Grief

After having her miscarriage, Joan and Lynn worry that Maya is in denial and not dealing with her grief when Maya suspects Darnell of blaming her for it. Also, William and Monica prepare for their first dinner party. Meanwhile, Joan tries to persuade Lynn to finally open up a bank account.

Spree To Be Free

Joan takes Maya shopping as a form of therapy, but Maya realizes Joan’s the one who needs consoling. Meanwhile, Monica tells William she’s pregnant, but his response isn’t what she expected.

Snap Back

When Darnell confronts Maya about not dealing with her recent loss he learns shocking news that Maya has been taking pills to help her deal with it. Meanwhile, at an Erykah Badu concert with Joan, Lynn’s manager informs her about a record label wanting to sign her. William also fears that his sex life will change after Monica has the baby after receiving information from Darnell about how a women’s body is after she gives birth.

Save the Last Dance

When Lynn accuses her friends of being old, Joan, Maya and William join her at a club to prove her wrong, and Lynn runs into Xander (Quddus Philippe), her old lover, who is still upset with her for not performing at his rally.

R.E.S.P.E.C.T. Find Out What it Means to William

William is unhappy at work and considers leaving the firm, but Monica worries that he won’t be able to provide for her and their new baby. Meanwhile, Maya is asked to write a column in her neighborhood’s newsletter. Elsewhere, Joan is offended by Lynn, who doesn’t like her house warming gift.

Deck the Halls with Bags and Folly

Joan plans a Christmas party at her old law firm in efforts to help raise money for the support group she has recently enrolled in for the families of those in Iraq, Meanwhile, William tries to get Monica in the holiday spirit and Maya and Darnell try to keep up with Lynn’s costly holiday gifts.

Adapt to Adopt

Maya and Darnell romanticize the idea of adopting until they attend a neighborhood group for people who have adopted children and are offered a baby girl to adopt. Lynn reminds them that adopting is a big decision and encourages them to think about it for a while.

What’s Black-A-Lackin’?

R&B Star Chrisette Michele guest stars. Lynn gets upset when she learns that her record label is pushing back the release of her album to promote another artist, Chrisette Michele (guest starring as herself). When Lynn confronts the record label, they tell her they are concerned about how to market her because they feel she is not "black" enough. Meanwhile, at a doctor’s appointment Monica decides she does not want to know the sex of the baby. However, William finds out the sex of the baby and accidentally text messages it to Monica, then enlists Joan to help steal Monica’s phone.

Stand and Deliver

Joan goes to the school where Aaron used to teach in order to read a letter he sent to his former students. However, when Joan arrives, the students give her a hard time so Maya, decides to use her street smarts to help Joan get through to the students. Meanwhile, Lynn turns in sub-par songs for her new record in an attempt to get out of her record contract and William tries to teach Jabari how to drive. Final Episode.
