1970s British tv sitcom

In 1955 new group of recruits arrive in Royal Air Force in Skelton to start their service. Here they meet the Corporal Marsh, who will make them regret they are alive.

In 1995 new group of conscripts arrive to an RAF base to take their basic military training. Among them are street-savvy Jakey Smith, former grammar school pupil Ken Richardson, a vicar’s son Matthew Lilley and Scotsman Bruce Leckie. The four soon meet their Nemesis, Corporal Marsh, whose only ambition in life is to bring misery to recruits under his command.

Get Some In! was one of the comedy series created on the British sentiment for army and war times (like The Army Game, Dad’s Army, Goodnight Sweetheart, some of the Carry On movies). This series was more like Carry On Sergeant than Dad’s Army since the story takes place after the war and the main plot is the group of recruits conscripted for National Service and not active soldiers. The idea for the show was rather simple - stereotypical drill instructor takes over the new group and tries to shape them up, mostly by shouting and bullying them. Even though they finished their basic training in Season 3 and were transferred to other bases Marsh kept popping up in their lives, which was a source of constant conflicts between them.

As for comedy series Get Some In! was only average show - it had some good motifs, but the weak points were rather average plots and the repetitiveness. If in the first two series the clash between "normal" recruits and demonic Marsh was good idea, stretching it for another three series was a little bit too much. Also the level of humour in the series wasn’t very impressive - the show was based more on the said sentiment for "good old times" than any new or fresh idea.

It is fun to watch for some time, but after a while it loses its flow and just keeps going round in circles.
