A recently divorced mother of a teenager decides to start dating again, which causes a lot of embarassment to her son and her best friend Ellie. Nevertheless once she felt young again she refuses to act like adult.
Cougar Town is not an easy series to describe. Well, unless you have seen series called Scrubs, by pure coincidence created by Bill Lawrence and co-written by Kevin Biegel, in which case the description is short and simple - "a copy". Of course not a copy in a sense that Cougar Town is about hospital with light atmosphere and often wacky and childish (in a good way) humour. It’s about single mother of teenager with light atmosphere and often wacky and childish (in a good way) humour.
All the characters are similiar to those in Scrubs (I mean name 3 differences between characters played in both series by Christa Miller), the kind of humour is very similiar, the directing style, some of the scenes, etc. And there wouldn’t be anything wrong about it, but what in Scrubs felt natural here seems forced and artificial. Zach Braff as childish and naive main character was well casted and Courteney Cox seems to trying too hard to seem like a childish character. What worked well when Donald Faison was being irresponsible parent, with help of Zach Braff as his equaly irresponsible friend, because they were twenty-something. It isn’t pretty when Ian Gomez and Brian Van Holt are trying to do the same way when they are forty-something.
Also the series is about Courteney Cox character dating some new guys and... well, that could be interesting for some time, but rest of the characters don’t put much value to the show, so after a while it is predictible and sometimes even dull. So to put it short summary - copy of Scrubs with slightly changed background. Good if you like that kind of humour, but if you have seen Scrubs, then don’t bother with Cougar Town.
