British tourists in Benidorm bring their problems with them to the sunny Spain, but leave with... completely different problems.

Benidorm, the Mekka for British budget travellers, each year attract the pale Britons hoping to get some tan and rest in the all-inclusive vacation packages. The staff of Solana hotel is used to the their specific taste in food, drinks and entertainment, but the only thing they can’t be prepared for is the problems the tourists bring with them. In each season different set of British tourists come to the Solana for their vacation. Most of them are not the people you would like to spend your vacation with, but it is such fun to watch them deal with their problems in this sitcom.

Benidorm developed by actor and writer Derren Litten seemed like a one-off project - group of budget tourists from Britain spend their whole vacation in their all-inclusive hotel, they deal with the problem they brought with them and spend the evenings in karaoke bar. But with rotation of characters between seasons, some of them returning for another vacation, some of them leaving Benidorm behind, changes in hotel staff it became one of the longest running British sitcoms in years with 10th season being broadcast in 2018.

While the concept for the show was that nothing particular was happening, just slow pace of the people on vacation in sunny Spain was contagious, after series 2 the format was switched from 25 to 45 minutes per episode, which made the pace of the episodes even slower, and from series 4 the focus of the plots was moved from tourists to introduce more stories that involved the hotel staff only, which did not helped in keeping the series fresh. Since series 6 the newly introduced characters were similar to those previously used and overall the level of comedy have dropped significantly with too much exposure given to characters that were extravagant, but very predictable - Kenneth and Liam, later Joey and Tiger.

Overall a great idea for sitcom that kept the show attractive for years, but with time lost a lot of its appeal and despite of plenty well-known comedians making cameos did not returned to the level of the first series.
