Department of Social Affairs is run by not very competent people under command of dawdling minister, but luckily they can count on Malcolm Tucker, who will give them wise advise or will scare them to death.
Political mockumentary showing what is going behind the closed door in modern politics. The concept was somewhat similiar to very popular British comedy series such as Yes Minister, The New Statesman or Absolute Power and as a series The Thick of It didn’t add much to the genre. Similiar set of characters, similiar methods of spinning the facts and opinions. The novelty was the main character of Malcolm Tucker, Scotsman who is intimidating everyone around and can’t build a sentence without swearing. So instead of intelligent dialogues in Yes Minister, clever plots in Absolute Power we have a lot of swearing and rather average problems and simple solutions to them.
Overall it is quite entertaining show, but the style and content isn’t for everybody’s taste. Also with time (especially since Season 3) the comedy elements were put aside and the show is almost political drama.
