In small village of Cresdon Green, somewhere Buckinghamshire, life goes on as usual. Well, except for the alien race that have invaded the village and isolated it from the rest of the world.
The residents of Cresdon Green in Buckinghamshire learned one day that their village have been isolated from rest of the world by the alien race that use their area as testing ground before making the full scale invasion on Earth. Of course this changed their lives completely - they don’t get newspapers any more and the prices of their properties have dropped. Apart from that they don’t really mind that much Commander Uljabaan and his soldiers. Uljabaan tries to understand human kind with a little help from his sarcastic computer, but villagers don’t really get in his away, apart from typical teenager Lucy Alexander and disgruntled Katrina Lyons, who formed a resistance force... Yes, both of them!
Radio comedy series set in small British village that was invaded by the aliens, who used a barrier to block this area from rest of the world. Welcome to Our Village, Please Invade Carefully was based on original concept for comedy, the scripts were well written, the only snag was lack of bigger picture. While the clash between alien invasion and typical British attitude was a brilliant idea after just few episodes the show seemed to be losing the momentum. On one hand the characters were well developed, but at the same time there were too few of them to keep the show running beyond second series. The second series wasn’t really that bad, some of the episodes were very good, but it was more or less repeating the same concepts that were used in earlier episodes and the clinch between villagers and aliens was going nowhere.
Overall Welcome to Our Village, Please Invade Carefully was another example that radio comedy in United Kingdom is far from being dead - the show was fresh, had interesting characters and good dialogues, but I think the creator Eddie Robson started the project with only short run in mind and the second season was just going through the motions without a bigger picture.
