Young woman is persuaded to be placed as a candidate for a Welsh Assembly, local parliament, even though she has no interest in politics. Guess what - she won.
Hayley Dukes is persuaded to be placed as a candidate for Welsh Assembly, the local parliament. She has no interest in politics and agrees only to be a stooge, so the quota was met by the party that puts her on the list. Unfortunately she wins the election and becomes the Assembly Member to dismay of her new boss, First Minister of Wales. Reluctantly she decides to take the duties of AM and tries her best to be useful.
Short-lived BBC Radio Wales sitcom starring Katy Wix, who plays a woman accidentally entangled into local politics. While the premise wasn’t overly original it was refreshing to see a completely different perspective to politics - not on the highest level, but on more local and more human level. The show itself did not have much of a potential, the main character was tackling problems that she had no competence to deal with, but due to her honesty and common sense approach she was popular among the constituents.
With author, Benjamin Partridge, and whole cast consisting of Welsh actors, it was clear that the main aim was to promote the Wales more than entertain the audience. With simple story, not very complicated plots and decent humour The Accidental AM was far from being groundbreaking radio sitcom, but on the other hand it wasn’t bad either. It was just an average radio comedy series that did not left much of a mark.
