Five middle-aged single neighbours live in a same London house divided into flats. Despite being completely different they have one thing in-common - they all are alone.
Widower Mitch moves into flat of his younger brother, Will. His work as therapist made him quite cynical, but this change of environment should be good for him. Unless people will insist on getting involved in his life. Like three neighbours: shy schoolteacher Ellie, self-centered actress Louisa or quite weird Welshman Morris. Despite his best efforts Mitch just can’t stop them from interfering in his life.
Sitcom centered around Mitch and four neighbours, who have only one thing in-common, they are more or less equally lonely, sounds like a really bad and depressing idea, but Alone somehow manages to pull it off. Cynical Mitch is a widower, Will is divorcee, Ellie is too shy to find a man, Louisa is too frustrated with her lacking career to take care of her love life, while Morris is a loner. None of it sounds like a sitcom material, but Alone is actually entertaining set of unusual characters that keep creating unusual situation. Mitch is the only typical "straight guy", who represents the common sense, which works perfectly with Angus Deayton’s personality.
