American actor best-known for his roles as Emmett "Doc" Brown in the Back to the Future trilogy, Jim Ignatowski in the television series Taxi, Uncle Fester in The Addams Family and its sequel Addams Family Values, and Judge Doom in Who Framed Roger Rabbit. He has won three Primetime Emmy Awards and an Independent Spirit Award. TV series "Taxi" earned him two Emmy Awards, a third received for his role in the television series "Road to Avonlea". It is also found in the theater, has won roles in, among others, Macbeth, The Seagull and Waiting for Godot. To prepare for the role of Taber in Lot nad kukulczym gniazdem (1975), he lived in a mental institution for a few weeks and studied the patients. His maternal grandfather, Lewis Henry Lapham (1858-1934), was one of the founders of Texaco Oil Company. His maternal uncle, Roger Lapham (1883-1966), was the Mayor of San Francisco from 1944 to 1948. Is the youngest of seven children of Samuel R. Lloyd and Ruth Lapham.
