Young Lennie Godber is sent to Slade Prison for breaking and entering. He is lucky enough to share cell with Norman Fletcher, veteran and father-figure, who can show him the ropes.

Motivated by Fletcher Godber starts to better himself and joins different classes no to end up in prison again.

| When old Blanco is given the parole he refuses to accept it - he wants his name to be cleared and Fletcher wants to help him. |

| Godber prepares for his history exam, but Fletcher insists to interfere and help him. |

| Godber case is about to be reviewed by the parole board, but another inmate, Jarvis, seems to be keen to get Godber into trouble. |
