Excentric billionaire Twiggy Rathbone becomes new owner of The Crucible, a dull, but very professional newspaper. He plans to switch it into a tabloid, but to keep up the appearances he keeps the old editor Harold Stringer.

The Crucible has lost all the credibility and Rathbone was forced to take up well known journalist as editor to pretend it is still a respectable newspaper.

| Richard Lipton, daytime chat show host takes over the position of Managing Editor and just like his predecessor he tries to bring some sanity into The Crucible. Meanwhile Russel Spam hires retired officer to write the column signed "god". |

| Young reporter Maggie Troon accidentally gets on the trace of strange murder in the house of High Court judge - it seema that 4 members of his family were found dead and the judge himself has gone missing. |
3 | The Hydra’s Head |
| George Kettle is sent to Salvador, where he gets into strange business involving a horse. |
4 | The Twilight Zone |
| Lipton decides to drop the "third page girls" from The Crucible, which leads to a full scale strike. |
5 | Crown of Thorns |
| Rathbone takes Lipton on a business trip to Japan. Spam and Kettel make use of the situation and they buy the real bones of Elvis Presley... Well, sort of real. |
6 | Unleash the Kracken |
| Maggie Troon finds the solution of deaths in judge’s house. |
