Bernard Black is owner of small old-fashioned bookshop that barely breaks even, mostly thanks to Bernard’s customer service skills... that he has none. He hires Manny to help around the shop, but his happy-go-lucky attitude really gets on Bernard’s nerves.

| Manny Bianco, an accountant unhappy working in the office is fired and undergoes a spiritual transformation. Bernard Black, owner of small bookshops, finds out that his business is on a verge of collapse. The paths of those two cross in strange circumstances. |

| Bernard can’t recall that he offered job to Manny, so during his first day in Black Books he is anxious to get rid of him. |

| Manny gives up trying to clean up the place, so he hires a professional cleaner. Bernard reluctantly agrees to move out for the evening and do a sit-in for a friend and his wine. |

| After all-night marathon of The Sweeney Manny is convinces that he is character in 1970s crime movie and becomes involved in real police work. Bernard and Fran are recalling last night events that led to his broken arm and her damaged neck. |
5 | The Big Lock-Out |
| After being burgled Manny decides to install the security door in Black Books, but remembering the opening and closing procedures were a bit too much for him. |
6 | He’s Leaving Home |
| After another argument Manny decides to leave the Black Books and tries to make it on his own in a big city. |
